The outreach events we conduct ensures that we can engage and support the local communities with the needed educational resources on sickle cell, maternal health and malaria treatment and prevention. Our major outreach event, which is in sickle cell , also involves collaboration with other local non profits and our pharmacy partners. We provide routine medicines, educational workshops on sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait and free genotype testing. Over 300 million people (and counting) globally are sickle cell trait carriers. In the United States alone, where newborn screening is nationwide, it is estimated that only 16% of people know their sickle cell trait status. Our mission with such outreach events is also to build a community where everyone is aware of their sickle cell genotype to make informed decisions about child birth.
